Waimea Homes Offer a Window on Hawaiian Cowboy Culture

Find a unique Hawaiian culture when you search Waimea homes. The area is known for its ranches and paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) culture. Waimea is inland and has been the farming and ranching center of the island for many years. At one time Parker Ranch was the biggest ranch in the entire United States. Since ranching and farming are such important activities in the area, it’s no surprise that Waimea boasts several weekly farmers markets. On Saturdays, residents can go to the Waimea Town market and the Waimea Homestead farmers market. There are also several smaller mid week markets. Another great agricultural event is the Waimea Cherry Blossom Heritage Festival, held every year on the first Saturday in February.

People from Waimea homes also love the many great restaurants in the area. Big Island Brewhaus has a varied selection of beers brewed on site. There’s also a menu full of fresh Mexican food, as well as local Hawaiian favorites. Waimea Center has several restaurants, including L & L Hawaiian Barbecue. There’s also grocery shopping and a monument to the paniolos who were the champion steer ropers at Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo in Wyoming in 1908.

Other sites of interest are the W.M. Keck Observatory, which is open for visitors on weekdays. Kahilu Theatre puts on dramatic performances, live traditional music, and dance. There are also classes in acting and dancing.
